“D” Golf Glossary

Moved (ball): When a ball is stopped or deported accidentally, it is called a misplaced ball. It must be replayed where it is.

Descent: Forward movement of the club from the top of the backswing to beyond the impact with the ball.

Garbage: Leaves and twigs not fixed to the ground and not adhering to the ball, which can be removed without penalty. The ball must not be moved.

Distance (at once): Distance traveled by the ball between the impact and the location where it touches the ground.

Nineteenth Hole: A pleasant moment at the clubhouse bar after a course.

Divot: Grass band raised by the club passing under the ball. The label invites players to replace their divots.

Dog Leg: Hole whose fairway turns to the left or right.

Give: Give a putt. Consider that his opponent has entered a putt without him actually having to do it. Also: Gimme.

Dormie: A player’s position relative to his opponent when, in a match-play, he has as many holes in the lead as he has to play.

Double Bogey: Hole made in two strokes above par.

Downswing: Step of swing corresponding to the descent of the club, until the impact with the ball.

Flag: Indicates the position of the hole on the green.

Draw: Ball trajectory from right to left, for a right-handed person.

Drive: At the start of a hole the player places or not his ball on a tee and plays his shot, it is said that he drove.

Driver: Club normally used at tee tee when maximum distance is required. Known as the number one wood.

Playground: Access price to the course.

Dropper: The action of picking up the ball when it is in an unplayable place, then letting it fall to the side, arm outstretched, with or without a penalty point. We also drop a new ball when the first is in the water.
