Glossary of Golf “C”

Caddy (or Caddy): Person accompanying the player and carrying his bag.

Caddy-Master: Person directing all the caddets of a club.

Calamity Jane: Nickname given to the putter used by the legendary Bobby Jones (USA).

Carry: Distance traveled by the ball between its flight and its first point of impact on the ground.

Scorecard: Map to track and record the results of a quartet. The scorecard normally displays the local rules of a field (Synonym: map of course, score, results, marking).

Rear Cavity: Cavity at the back of the irons to lower the weight of the head and allow a higher ball flight and better tolerance when off-center strikes.

Chapman: Formula played by 2 players against 2 players. The two players on each team play a ball from the start, alternate the next move, and then choose the best ball to finish the hole in foursome (a ball played alternately by the players).

Candlelight: A term for a ball flight that is too high and is characteristic of an outside-to-inside swing plane or a clubhead passing under the ball.

Trolley: Specific to carry the golf bag.

Chip: A quick tap in the direction of the green.

Chipper: Special club to make a chip and whose loft corresponds in general to that of a iron 7 or 8.

Club: Usual English name given to canes or golf clubs. It is the indispensable tool of the golfer declined in two categories: the irons and the woods.

Golf Club: All the facilities of a golf course.

Club House: Variable size infrastructure where the golf course is located. It is a friendly place where players like to meet for a drink after a course. Depending on its importance, it may include changing rooms, a bar, a restaurant or even a hotel.

Cut: Result used to establish eliminated players in a tournament, normally after 36 holes in a 72-hole tournament.
