Glossary of Golf “H”

Half Swing: Swing performed with a reduced climb.

Handicap: Ranking of amateur players.

Short grass: Generally denotes the fairway.

Long grass: Generally refers to the grass along the path. See also: rough.

Honor: Right to play first on a hole. Return to the winner of the previous hole.

Hook: Missed shot (not frankly) whose trajectory curves sharply to the left.

Out of bounds: Area outside the playing field and bounded by white stakes.

Hosel: Fixing point of the handle on the clubhead.
